Camunda

We design and build Camunda 8 processes in BPMN and DMN, with Java job workers and connectors. We deploy Self-Managed on Kubernetes or work on Camunda SaaS, with Operate, Tasklist and Optimize. Where AI agents act inside a process, the BPMN model, its rules and the audit trail stay in charge.

The task.

A process engine holds the state of your business. Orders, claims and approvals wait in it for days or weeks. When a step fails, someone must see it and act.

Camunda 8 keeps the engine apart from your code. Your Java services become job workers that fetch work and report back. Models, workers and operations must fit together.

What we do.

  1. 01

    Process models in BPMN

    We model each process with your business owners and your engineers. The same model is read by both and executed as drawn.

  2. 02

    Decisions in DMN

    Rules that change often go into DMN decision tables. The business can read them, and the process calls them by their decision ID.

  3. 03

    Java job workers

    Each service task names a job type, and a Java worker takes those jobs. We write workers that are idempotent, so a retry does no harm.

  4. 04

    Connectors

    Connectors call REST services and message brokers from the model itself. Where no connector fits, a job worker does the work.

  5. 05

    Self-Managed or SaaS

    Self-Managed on Kubernetes or Camunda SaaS, with Operate, Tasklist and Optimize. From 8.8, Zeebe is the engine inside the Orchestration Cluster.

  6. 06

    Agentic orchestration

    AI agents act inside the process through the Camunda AI Agent connector. Rules, approvals and the audit trail stay in the BPMN model.

A service task and its job worker
// BPMN: the service task names a job type
// <bpmn:serviceTask id="CheckCredit"><bpmn:extensionElements>
//   <zeebe:taskDefinition type="check-credit" retries="3" />
// </bpmn:extensionElements></bpmn:serviceTask>
client.newWorker()
    .jobType("check-credit")
    .handler((jobClient, job) -> {
      String customerId = (String) job.getVariablesAsMap().get("customerId");
      boolean approved = creditService.check(customerId);
      jobClient.newCompleteCommand(job.getKey())
          .variables(Map.of("approved", approved))
          .send().join();
    })
    .open();

Scroll the code sideways to read each line.

Schematic, after the Camunda 8 Java client. The service task names a job type. The worker subscribes to that type, does the work and completes the job with its result. Not a client system.

Typical engagements.

  • New process on Camunda 8

    From the first model to a tested release, in short increments. Workers, connectors and monitoring are in place at go-live.

  • Platform setup

    Camunda 8 Self-Managed on your Kubernetes, or Camunda SaaS, with monitoring and runbooks for your team.

  • Estate review

    A written review of your models, workers and cluster. You get the risks and the options, in order of urgency.

  • Embedded engineers

    Our engineers join your process team. They work on your cluster and to your release cycle.

Versions and dates.

From the vendors' published pages, checked on 17 October 2026.

The current release is Camunda 8.10, checked on 17 October 2026.

Standard support for Camunda 8.8 ends on 13 April 2027, so an 8.8 cluster needs its next upgrade planned.

Camunda 7 Community Edition reached end of life in October 2025; its last release is 7.24.

Camunda 7 Enterprise support ends in April 2030.

Is this for you?

A good fit

  • You have Camunda 7 or Camunda 8 in production, or plan to.
  • Your engineers write Java and will own the workers after handover.
  • Your processes call IBM webMethods, ServiceNow or your own services.

Not a fit

  • You want AI agents to act outside a process, with no rules or audit trail.
  • You need people placed, with no technical lead on your side.
  • You want licences resold, with no engineering work.

Questions.

What does a Camunda 8 job worker do?

A job worker fetches jobs of one type from the engine, does the work and completes each job. The BPMN service task names the job type, so the model and the code stay apart.

Should we use Camunda 8 Self-Managed or SaaS?

Self-Managed runs on your own Kubernetes and your team operates it; Camunda SaaS is operated by Camunda. The choice depends on where your data may live and who will operate the cluster. Self-Managed in production needs a licence from Camunda.

Can you migrate us from Camunda 7 to Camunda 8?

Yes, we plan and carry out Camunda 7 to 8 migrations. We start with an inventory of models, delegate code, expressions and running instances. JavaDelegates become job workers, and JUEL expressions become FEEL. Staying on Camunda 7 Enterprise until April 2030 is also an option.

How do AI agents fit into a Camunda process?

An AI agent runs as one step of a BPMN process, through the Camunda AI Agent connector. The process decides when the agent acts, which tools it may call and when a person approves.
